Your chance to learn the Southern Preying Mantis Kung Fu online

A infighting, close range system with minimum motions. Infighting means the closer the better. We like to be in the grabbing or clinching range, where we can hit with power within that short distance. We do not kick high. All kicks go no higher than the groin and are low and devastating or used for leg sweeps and takedowns. Our preference is hitting and ending the fight quickly. A praying mantis doesn’t jump around, jab or fake. Most fights or self-defense situations will only last seconds. We train and are built to win those first few seconds.

Kung fu is not form. But you do need a series of drills or exercises to     help build the power and mobility of this Kung Fu. We call the first   phase of training: “Southern Praying Mantis Bodybuilding.” This is to  help develop the body- and shape of this Kung Fu. Once that is built,    the power and mobility are trained separately.

As you advance, you combine the power and mobility, and can switch from strong to mobile quickly and flawlessly. We do not pull our hand back to the waist. Our hands and elbows are kept in front of us, with the elbows inside the hands.

Video clips are from several differing Schools showing aspects of Southern Mantis Boxing,     thanks with respect.

There is a saying to this effect:            "What is seen is not the same as                          what is felt."

Eyes to eyes, hand to hand, heart to heart - you don't come - I won't start.

Training in SPM, (Southern Preying Mantis), is physically and mentally demanding. In learning the Forms, (kata), and the Drills, the correct posture must be followed; the same is more-so of the mental training. If not followed correctly, whilst in appearance to the untrained eye the 'body' will appear powerful, in reality only the 'external' of the system will be learnt.                         The 'internal' energies (fa ging) won't generate to compliment.  As such the true intricacies of SPM won't form and so unusable.
